JASON IMES | ASSISTANT COACH |
For the last 11 seasons, from the NAIA to the NCAA, the Sooner Athletic Conference to the Heartland and the Lone Star, Jason Imes has been the right hand man for head coach Todd Duncan, with the pair leading the Chaparral basketball program to new heights every year.
In his 11 seasons as the team’s assistant coach, Lubbock Christian has posted a record of 202-111. The Chaps are coming off back-to-back Lone Star Conference championships and they have made four NCAA regional appearances in seven seasons.
As the assistant coach for the LCU program, Imes handles opponent scouting, helps with recruiting, is the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator, takes part in the planning and running of practice and takes charge of in-game stats. He also helps coordinate and lead the men’s basketball program’s summer basketball camps.
More than a decade into his tenure at Lubbock Christian, Imes has helped Duncan turn the Chaps into a perennial contender in the NCAA’s Division II South Central Region and – more recently – a program gaining recognition nationally.
The Chaps made the move to the NCAA in 2013 and were immediately successful, going 17-8 in their first season. Overall, LCU is 172-82 as an NCAA team with winning records in all but one of their nine seasons in the association. In their first year of postseason eligibility (2015-16), Lubbock Christian posted a 21-10 overall record and made the regional in their first chance at it. They then shocked pretty much everyone at the tournament, upsetting the No. 1 seed and host Midwestern State. Success at the NCAA level has only gotten better since then for the Chaps, as they have reached three more regional tournaments and won at least one game every time they have appeared.
Most recently, Lubbock Christian secured a new program first, when they earned the right to host the South Central Regional and play as the No. 1 seed at the tournament. LCU’s most recent two seasons (20-21, 21-22) have seen their greatest successes and a number of other program firsts.
LCU set a program record for wins with 27 in 2021-22, including a 20-game win streak to start this season, which was also a program-best. In the middle of the season, Lubbock Christian reached No. 1 in the national polls and spent more than six weeks at that spot, which was another program first. The performance came on the heels of the 2020-21 season that featured a 16-0 start and No. 2 nationally ranking and the team’s first LSC crown.
Thirty-two players have earned various All-Conference honors in the 11 seasons Imes has been a coach, including back-to-back LSC Player of the Year and Two-Time All-American Parker Hicks. As the program’s main post coach, Imes has played a large role in Hicks’ incredible three-year run with the Chaps.
Imes joined the Chaps coaching staff during the 2011-12 season after 10 seasons at Texas Tech University working under Bob and Pat Knight. Imes joined the Red Raiders in 2001 while pursuing a Master of Science in Sport Management and assisted with all the areas of the day-to-day operations. In 2003, Imes became Tech's assistant video coordinator and then served as the Director of Video Operations during the 2008-09 season. He also assisted in coordinating team travel and directed the Pat Knight Summer Basketball Camps.
The Portage, Indiana native graduated from Indiana University in 2001 with a B.S. in Secondary Education. During his time at Indiana, Imes served as a student manager from 1998-2000 on the Hoosier's staff overseen by Bob Knight.
Imes and wife, Meredith, reside in Lubbock with their daughter Emmy and son Evan.
